Diploma in Business Studies

Programme Overview

GISM offers two Diploma programmes:

  1. International Pathway – Diploma in Business and Management (The Diploma in Business Studies represents the first year of the Massey University Bachelor of Business pathway completed at GISM Sri Lanka.)
  2. Local Diploma –Diploma in Business Management (TVEC recognized)

Diploma in Business Management

Ideal for school leavers to train for employment or proceed for Higher education.

Those who wish to study abroad may join the Business and Management bridging course and, on successful completion, they are eligible to transfer to Massey University in New Zealand second year of the Bachelor of Business programme.

Programme Description

Diploma holders in Business Management programme (DipBM) will have a broad base of business knowledge combined with certain specialist knowledge of selected areas relevant to the establishment and operations of businesses.  The DipBM is therefore an excellent entry to a promising career path.  Progressively this programme develops the ability to think clearly, critically, analytically and to conceptualize business management ideas with respect to practical situations.  The programme also aims to develop transferable skills which are of value with business environments.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this Diploma Programme, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze, interpret, and communicate business data using appropriate statistical techniques, accounting principles, and computer software to support effective decision-making.
  2. Prepare and evaluate financial and management reports by applying accounting concepts, financial management principles, and capital budgeting techniques to assess organisational performance.
  3. Apply marketing concepts and strategies by identifying target market needs, designing an effective marketing mix, and considering regulatory and ethical factors in local and international contexts.
  4. Demonstrate effective management and human resource practices by applying ethical decision-making, team-building, motivation techniques, and an understanding of stakeholder relationships.
  5. Use practical business and digital skills including entrepreneurship fundamentals, office software applications, and basic computer hardware knowledge to operate effectively in a modern office environment.

Length of the Programme – Nine months with industry training

Entry Requirements
  • Those who have passed G.C.E. Advanced Level OR
  • G.C.E. Ordinary Level with minimum five “C” passes including English language plus minimum one-year industrial experience OR having completed the GISM Foundation Programme

Intake – Twice a year (January and August)
